Michael McClure is the author of numerous books of poetry, including Dark Brown, Jaguar Skies, September Blackberries, Rebel Lions, Huge Dreams, Rain Mirror, and Touching the Edge. He has published two novels, The Mad Cub and The Adept; eight books of plays, including The Beard and Josephine the Mouse Singer; and three collections of essays, Scratching the Surface, Specks, and Meat Science Essays. His journalism has appeared in Vanity Fair, The Los Angeles Times, and Rolling Stone. He has received numerous awards, including a Guggenheim, an Obie for Best Play, an NEA Grant, The Alfred Jarry Award, and a Rockefeller Grant. He has been playwright in residence at both The American Conservatory Theater and The Magic Theater in San Francisco. He is a professor at The California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland.
