Introduction by Zachary Kluckman

Light one hundred candles and set them around the room in a ring of crimson luminescence. Set all mirrors aside in other rooms. This will be a time for reflection on a much deeper level, where the only light that shines is broadcast on waves of sound, defying physics and reason, existing beyond the eye and yet full of vision. As you settle back to delve within the landscapes of soul and mind, think of a sudden light on a starless night. Imagine a field in the Highlands, covered over by rain and thunderhead…cool breezes chill the skin and seem to sink just below the pores. As your hot hands attempt to create friction and illicit a spark of warmth, a single cloud parts and there—in the middle of a field deserted by star and sheep alike—you find a wineglass brimming with red wine that soothes the throat and warms the chest…unexpected and perhaps startling. The spoken word poems that follow are like this wine—an unexpected foray into areas we may not often wander; a tangible initiation that leaves you dizzy. Enjoy.
