Click here to listen to Tufik Shayeb performing "Filthy Lizard" In addition to appearing in local anthologies, Tufik Shayeb's poetry has found its way into nationally regarded collections, such as The Good Things About America (2009). He has published three chapbooks: Cracked Verses (2007), I'll Love You to Smithereens: a selection from the full-length manuscript (2008), and How Did Things Get So Janked Up? (2009). His second chapbook, I'll Love You to Smithereens, was re-released as a full-length collection in 2009. Since May of 2007, Shayeb has performed poetry at numerous venues, including the famed Green Mill Jazz Club, the Kimo Theater, the Bartell Theater, Studio 511, the Paper Heart, the Sedona Center for the Arts, and the Starry Plough Pub. He has semi-finaled at National Forensic Association's Poetry Interpretation competition, and quarter-finaled at the American Forensic Association's National Poetry Interpretation competition. In 2009, Shayeb completed his first national tour and won the Mesa Grand Slam, making him the 16th annual champion and marking his second year on the Mesa Nationals Slam team. That same year, he represented the Downtown Poetry Slam at the Individual World Poetry Slam in Berkeley, California. Among other shows, he has read poetry in Anthology Inc.'s Valentine's Day Massacre, The Lasers of Sexellence, and the Superstition Springs Review Reading Series. |
