The morning phone rings And my husband says "Really?" "Oh My God" "What channel?" He hangs up.
The TV comes on Which never does In daylight. We stare at the screen--
Glance at each other Barely speak For three hours, Then only subdued words.
Our son finally gets through. Says the bridges, tunnels, airways Are closed from New Jersey, to New York, to Connecticut.
Before he hangs up, I ask: Did you see the buildings fall? Did you see the gray/black smoke, The rubble?
Did you see the orderly people Fleeing Their mouths covered, Eyes smeared and glazed.
Have you ever thought That an attack Could happen In our country?
Did you see it coming? Did you see anything at all? Did you? Did you?
