THIS POEM was published in Autumn of 1999 by Wildflower, a print magazine that's distributed here in Canada. I'm not sure if they have it up on web pages - I never did see it. Anyway, in honour of Gillie's wind poem, I thought I'd share this with you. Feel free to comment or critique. Even though it has been published, it won't hurt me to learn something. ------------------------ I wonder of the wind that cools the pavement moves the branches of trees causing them to dance against the fading sky I wonder if it ever feels the cold this wind and if it often wraps itself around a body just to gain warmth before it moves on I wonder of the wind and if it leaves pieces of itself behind as it dashes through the foliage Pieces that have not yet attained sustenance required to keep up with the whole of it as it swirls around the globe causing patterns to form on the weather lady’s screen to be pointed out as dis-turbulence until it moves across the continent looking for other places to leave pieces of itself behind I highly suspect those pockets in the the trees The places the squirrels turn down as being not good enough to store their nuts and contract their tiny wombs I highly suspect those pieces as being children of the wind who know that if they stay still they may well become a part or even as one with the tree in which they take shelter I wonder of squirrels and just can’t imagine their breathing in and out with each tiny contraction. I wonder if there will ever come a time when I will cease to wonder. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

Hey I'm reading--very lovely poem (don't change anything). I like the way the lines stop at unlikely places (like at the word "it"). Every line feels like a gust and then the wind dies when it wants to and comes back when it wants to. The second stanza is my favorite though--wind seeking warmth--today was a windy day way down here in Georgia...the clouds were all cirrus, flying high, away up there beyond the reach of any warmth...and I think you must have written this on a day much like today was. I wish that I saw more poetry in simple language like this where metaphors and such are the basis of the ideas...thoughts and senses are intertwined and compared...it's a welcome relief to all those thought-poems out there where the poets live in their own minds and can't find communicable expression (i.e. "into the flaming abyss of my soul I crept seeking reason and the center of all creation" do you have any idea what that means because I'm struggling to understand it...and I wrote it!). Where all are the print magazines gone to? I'm looking all over and I can't seem to find anything but e-zines. |

Carly, A delightful read and now to make you smile, "The answer my friend is blowing in the wind." |

Ha ha! Wonder where you heard that line, Lorraine ... Never thought about how 'it' ends the line there - I've since broken the habit of doing that. Wildflower - a print mag - printed it up on a swirling page - it looked really nice. Thanks for your comments. |
